If you’re experiencing toothache pain, you’re not alone. Toothaches are one of Canada’s most common dental problems, and they can be really painful. Fortunately, there are some natural remedies that can help ease the pain until you can get to your dentist appointment. In this article, we will discuss a few of these remedies and how they can help you feel better.

What Is a Toothache?

A toothache is defined as pain in or around a tooth. The cause of the pain can vary, but it can be caused by anything from a cavity to gum disease. If you’re experiencing toothache pain, it’s important to see your dentist right away to find out the root cause and get treatment.

Saltwater

One of the simplest and most effective remedies for toothache pain is saltwater. To make salt water, mix one teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water. Gargle with the saltwater solution for about 30 seconds, then spit it out. Repeat this process several times throughout the day until the pain subsides. Saltwater helps reduce inflammation and kill bacteria, which can help reduce the pain.

Garlic

Another natural remedy that can help ease toothache pain is garlic. Garlic contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, which can help reduce inflammation and kill bacteria in the mouth. To use garlic as a remedy for a toothache, crush a clove of garlic and place it on the affected area. Leave it in place for about five minutes, then spit it out. Repeat this process several times throughout the day until the pain subsides.

Vanilla Extract

Vanilla extract also contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it another excellent option for treating toothache. To use vanilla extract as a remedy, soak a cotton ball in vanilla extract and apply it to the affected tooth. Leave it in place for about five minutes, then spit it out. Repeat this process several times throughout the day until the pain subsides.

Cold Compress/Ice:

Applying a cold compress or ice to the outside of your cheek can help numb the area and reduce pain. To use this remedy, wrap ice in a towel and apply it to the outside of your cheek for about 15 minutes at a time. Repeat this process every few hours as needed until the pain subsides.

Peppermint Tea Bags

Peppermint tea bags can also help ease toothache pain by numbing the area and reducing inflammation. To use peppermint tea bags as a remedy, steep a tea bag in hot water for about five minutes. Remove the teabag, cool for a few minutes, and then place it on the affected tooth. Hold it in place for about five minutes, then remove it. Repeat this process several times throughout the day until the pain subsides.

To use clove oil as a remedy, but one or two drops of clove oil on a cotton ball and apply it to the affected tooth. Leave it in place for about five minutes, then spit it out.
